Dagestani journalists support demand to reopen inquiry into Akhmednabiev's murder

Dagestani journalists support the demand expressed by the international human rights organization "Article 19", which calls on the authorities of the Russian Federation to resume the investigation into the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The ‘Caucasian Knot’ has reported that on September 16, in the course of the UN Human Rights Council session, activists of the international human rights organization "Article 19" demanded from Russian authorities to reopen the investigation into the murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev. The 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) is taking place in Geneva on September 9-26.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, born in the village of Karata, Akhvakh District of Dagestan, was killed on July 9, 2013, in the outskirt of Makhachkala. On July 30, Russia’s investigators have suspended the preliminary investigation into the murder of jounalist. Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev worked as a ‘Causasian Knot’ correspondent more than seven years, covering hottest topics. The "Caucasian Knot" is ready to pay 200,000 roubles reward for information on murder of Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev.

In his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Magomed Magomedov, a reporter of the agency "Mediafakt", has expressed the opinion that the investigation into the Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev's murder should not only be reopened, but it should also be brought to the Chief Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

"The law enforcement system is to prove inconsistency of the version that the murder of our colleague allegedly involves some law enforcers, who allegedly acted in concert with some Dagestani officials. The public society discusses this version among others. And the investigators unconsciously support them by their behaviour," Magomed Magomedov has said.

According to Milana Magomedova, a producer of the "NTV" Channel in Dagestan, the investigation into the Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev's murder is to be impartial and the persons who ordered the crime are to be brought to criminal responsibility.

"He is the 17th journalist murdered in Dagestan. And no investigation into the journalists' murders is carried out properly, the persons who ordered the crimes are not identified. The criminals are not punished, and, as we know, impunity breeds new crimes," Milana Magomedova has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
