One hundred conscripts from Chechnya start their service in Russia's Interior Troops

One hundred of Chechen recruits have sworn in and began their serve in the units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) deployed in their republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in autumn of 2014, Chechnya held its first in 22 years large-scale call of local young men to serve in Russian armed forces. 500 young men were recruited, while, according to the military commissariats, the total republic's contingent of conscripts is about 80,000.

According to an official from the military commissariat of Chechnya, 60 recruits will serve in the regiment of internal troops of the Russian MIA named after Akhmat Kadyrov, and other 40 recruits – in the "Yug" (South) battalion. The remaining 400 conscripts have been sent to the units of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Southern Military District.

The young men interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent said that the military service is now considered a prestigious occupation in Chechnya, in particular, because with problems with finding a job in the republic.

Let us remind you that Chechnya had no large-scale conscription campaigns since 1992. In the autumn of 2001, Chechnya made an experiment with a call of 70 boys to military service. All of them were sent to serve in the sports company of the Motorized Infantry Brigade, stationed in the Moscow Military District. However, several months later all the conscripts were sent back to Chechnya because of numerous conflicts with colleagues and officers of the unit.
