CMR director Arapova criticizes court decision in Reznik's case

The Centre for Media Rights (CMR) will assist in appealing against the verdict passed to the Rostov journalist and blogger Sergey Reznik, said Galina Arapova, the director of the Centre.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Sergey Reznik, who is known for his critical publications, was charged with posting information in his blog in the LiveJournal, which insulted the authorities and contained a false denunciation. The journalist denies all the charges. On January 22, the court sentenced Reznik to three years in prison. His defence announced its intention to appeal against the verdict.

"This sentence should not have been passed," Galina Arapova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"It has nothing to do with justice," she said, adding that the CMR will help in challenging this verdict.

She said that all experts in their conclusions assert that the publications in question have no words, indecent or insulting by their form.
