The basic occupation of the population was agriculture. Since 1st part of XVII century the Shamhalstvo of Tarki was repeatedly in citizenship of Russia. By the beginning of XVIII century, as a result of struggle against Georgia, kabardian princes and Russia, the territory of the Shamhalstvo of Tarki was reduced to a small possession along the Caspian Sea.
