Chereshnya villagers state threat of epidemics because of dump arranged by authorities in village centre

The protests of residents of the village of Chereshnya against the garbage dump arranged in the village centre gave no results. The villagers who tried to block the passage of KamAZ trucks were pushed off by the police. The authorities say that the garbage dump is temporary. Vladimir Kimaev, an activist of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch), has appealed to law enforcement bodies demanding to check the legitimacy of authorities' actions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 25 Sochi was affected by heavy rains, which flooded hundreds of local houses.

On June 28, it became known that an unauthorized garbage dump of the garbage collected after the flooding appeared within the boundaries of the village of Chereshnya, Adler District of Sochi, on the border with the National Park.

On June 26, villagers of Akhshtyr did not let in three KamAZ trucks loaded with debris, said the village head Alexander Koropov. He said that they wanted to unload the garbage into the quarry near the village, from where they extracted gravel for Olympic construction.

According to Chereshnya villagers, the venue was visited by the Mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov, who said that in accordance with the decision of the Commission for Emergency Situations, the area in Chereshnya was defined for the temporary storage of wastes exported from the territory, where the state of emergency had been announced after the flooding.
