Derbent residents dissatisfied with repairmen's work in preparation for city jubilee
Because of bad organization of repair works, the city of Derbent is all the time suffering from water, electricity and gas outages, locals complain. Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the "Nastoyascheye Vremya", said that the last major reconstruction of the city was carried out half a century ago.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 15 this year Derbent will celebrate its 2000th anniversary. The city is under a large-scale preparation for celebrating the jubilee. On February 3, Sergey Melikov, the presidential envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), said that the authorities were not ready to efficiently spend money for the jubilee; and on April 9 he expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the reconstructed objects.
Repairers' actions result in systematic outages of water and electricity supplies, said Adil Gadjiev, a resident of Tagiev Street.
In connection with the celebrations, city authorities "had to at once solve the problems that had accumulated over decades," said Magomed Yusupov, a building engineer of a private company. According to his story, now, in the main streets, workers are actively demolishing "illegal constructions" and broaden sidewalks.
Citizens have fears that renovations will affect only the main streets of the city, said Elnara Madjidova, who lives in Naneishvili Street. Most of the problems in her street remain unresolved since the flooding.
Ali Nurmagomedov, the head of the State Communal Institution "Derbent-2000", which is in charge of the works, has confirmed that he is constantly facing discontent of local residents. In his opinion, in most cases this dissatisfaction is ungrounded.
