Rasim Aliev's relatives disagree with qualification of criminal case of his death

The family of the journalist Rasim Aliev, who died after beating up in Azerbaijan, disagrees with the qualification of the criminal case under the article of "Deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Rasim Aliev died on August 9 in Clinical Centre No. 1 in Baku, where he was brought on August 8 after being beaten up by a group of unidentified persons. Prior to his death, in his comment on his beating up, the journalist said that the cause of the incident could be his criticism of the behaviour of the football player Djavid Guseinov. Six persons are accused of involvement in Rasim Aliev's death, including Guseinov himself.

On his page, Rasim Aliyev posted a video with an interview, in which when asked by a reporter from Cyprus why after the match Guseinov raised the flag of Turkey, the footballer said "Turks are my friends" and demonstrated an "indecent gesture" to the reporter. In his comment, Aliyev wrote that he would not want "such rude and misbehaving footballer to represent his country in the pitches of Europe." Later, the footballer called him and explained that his gesture was misinterpreted, and "he actually meant that Azerbaijan and Turkey are friendly countries."

Aliev's relatives are dissatisfied with the progress of the investigation; and, therefore, they invited a well-known lawyer Asabali Mustafaev to efficiently defend their interests. Mustafaev himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

According to his story, in the first place, relatives of the deceased journalist disagree with the qualification of a criminal case under the article of "Deliberate infliction of grievous bodily harm". According to the lawyer, "there are attributes of a murder in this crime."

"If they just wanted to beat Rasim up, one-two persons would be enough for that. Let's say that they (the attackers) had not known Rasim and thought he was a physically strong man. But when they saw him, they had to realize that an attack on him of five-six persons and brutal beating may lead to Rasim's death. Therefore, there are grounds to believe that these people consciously applied heavy blows on Rasim. That is, here we see all attributes of an attempt on human life," said Mustafaev.
