Azerbaijani secret services accuse Natiq Kerimov of espionage

On January 6, Natiq Kerimov, one of the elders of the village of Nardaran, was detained in Nardaran near the school No. 62, where he came to accompany his grandson home. The court of Baku has pronounced the decision to arrest Natiq Kerimov for four months.

On November 26, the unrest in Nardaran was provoked by a special operation, during which law enforcers detained 14 people, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity" movement. As a result of the clashes between the local residents and the police, seven persons were killed.

Today, the PR Division of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan has disseminated a press release in connection with the detention of Natiq Kerimov.

The press release states that Natiq Kerimov, a citizen of Azerbaijan, a resident of the village of Nardaran of the Sabunchu District of Baku, "secretly collaborated with the special services of a foreign state."

"During a long time, Natiq Kerimov fulfilled the instructions of the secret service and carried out acts of espionage for a foreign country to the detriment of national security of Azerbaijan," states the press release disseminated by the GSS.

The press release does not disclose the name of the country, in which interests, according to investigators, Natiq Kerimov used to act.
