Acharyan, Rachia Akopovich
Literature scientist and linguist. Academician of the Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences (1943), Honorable associate of Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1937).
Born March 8 (20), 1876, in Constantinople. Studied in Paris and Strasbourg Universities. Yerevan University professor starting 1922. Inspirer of historic and comparative methods of Armenian language learning. Author of research works in Armenian dialectology, lexicology, and lexicography, Armenian language history, comparative historic grammar and general linguistics, as well as Armenian studies issues.
Died in Yerevan on April 16, 1953.
