Yunus-Bek Evkurov announces dissolution of Ingush Muftiate

The Congress of Ingush Muslims, which was to address the issue of the resignation of Mufti Isa Khamkhoev, was postponed. The procedure has been initiated to dissolve the current Muftiate. This was announced by Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Congress of Ingush Muslims on the issue of the resignation of Mufti Isa Khamkhoev was scheduled by Alims' Council for March 29. On February 2, the Mufti took part in a gathering of followers of the Sufi concept of Islam in Grozny. Participants of the gathering adopted the resolution which recognized Wahhabism as "a terrorist course, directed against the fundamental laws of sharia in order to split Muslims all over the world." After that, the Council of Ingush Teips demanded the resignation of Isa Khamkhoev.

"According to the elders, the election of a new mufti would lead to a confrontation between supporters of Isa Khamkhoev and of newly elected Mufti, since Isa Khamkhoev, even against the background of a real threat of the split of community into two warring sides, is not going to resign," emphasizes the statement posted on the website of the Ingush authorities.

According to the Ingush leader, he has no doubt that Isa Khamkhoev fails to fulfil his duties and responsibilities, and the Muftiate should be reformed.

Let us remind you that the tension in the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Ingushetia increased after an assassination attempt on Khamzat Chumakov, the imam of the mosque in the municipality of Nasyr-Kort in Nazran, who had a conflict with the Muftiate.
