Yerevan protesters are against deploying peacemakers in Nagorno-Karabakh

Activists have announced an appeal to the President of Armenia with a demand to reject any concessions on the Karabakh conflict settlement and to prevent deployment of peacemakers in the region. They also demanded resignations of several senior officials. However, they failed to hand over their appeal to Serzh Sargsyan's residence, because the police dispersed them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, policemen dispersed a march in Yerevan dedicated to the warfare in Nagorno-Karabakh, and detained 42 persons.

On April 22, in Freedom Square, activists read out a letter to President Sargsyan, in which they demanded to refrain from signing the documents on the Karabakh issue, to maintain the status quo, to eliminate any territorial concessions, and to prevent any deployment of peacemaking forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The authors of the letter has noted that Armenia should carry out an immediate compensation from the state budget to the families of those killed in the course of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh on April 2-5, and to the wounded servicemen in the amount of 30,000 and 5000 US dollars respectively.

Also, activists demanded to remove from office the following high-ranking officials: Edward Nalbandyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia; Seiran Oganyan, the Minister of Defence; Yuri Khachaturov, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia; and his deputy Aikaz Bagmanyan – for the absence of control over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which "led to the human casualties," stated the appeal.

Besides, the authors of the letter demanded to oblige 50 top oligarchs of the country to donate at least five million US dollars each into the state budget, and to direct this money to strengthening the national defence and development of high-tech defence systems.
