Nalchik police refuse to initiate case on desecration of monument to victims of Caucasian War
The abusive words, left by unidentified offenders on the monument to victims of the Caucasian War in Nalchik, were easily erased and cannot make the basis for legal action on vandalism or damage to property, the police have concluded.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the monument to "Adygs who perished during political events of 1763-1864" was desecrated in Nalchik on March 24. Unidentified persons made insulting inscriptions on the monument. Adyg activists demanded from the prosecutor's office to find the culprits and bring them to criminal liability.
The police’s answer was posted by the activist Astemir Shebzukhov in his blog at "LiveJournal".
The answer says that the intentional damage to property cannot be established, because Shebzukhov erased the inscriptions; therefore, there is no need to bring the monument to its original appearance.
