Chechen authorities launch two new tourist routes

In the coming weeks, Chechnya will open a new bicycle and hiking trails for tourists. Currently, the republic has 16 approved tourist routes.

In order to attract tourists, Chechnya has designed two new routes – a boat rafting down the mountain Argun River in the Itum-Kale District, and a cycling route in the mountainous Argun Gorge, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in the Republic’s Committee for Tourism.

The Committee believes that the new routes will attract fans of extreme tourism.

According to the Committee, last year the republic was visited by over 60,000 people. Experts believe that this year the figure may reach 100,000.

Most of the tourists come to Grozny to admire the central part of the Chechen capital, visit the mosque "Heart of Chechnya", the high-rise complex "Grozny City" and the Orthodox Archangel Mikhail Church, built in the 19th century. Also popular are ancient combat towers in the Argun Gorge, the architectural monument “Tsoi-Pede” (City of the Dead), and ancient villages of Khoi and Makazhoi.
