Residents of Martakert, who left their houses because of shelling, begin to return home

Residents of the city of Martakert, who left home after the April escalation of the Karabakh conflict, start to return to their houses. According to an official from the City Mayoralty, the damaged buildings are being repaired at the expense of the authorities. The local residents have noted that they are still not ready to bring their children back, since they do not believe in the armistice.

In the morning of April 26, residents of Martakert reported that they were hiding in cellars during the past night, and several residential houses were damaged in the city.

The Ministry of Urban Development has resumed repairing of the damaged houses, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the City Mayoralty. According to the official, the city infrastructure has been fully restored.

After the ceasefire announced on April 5, the authorities started to repair the damaged houses in Martakert; "however, the shelling of April 26 and 27 forced repair men to suspend the project," noted officials from the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Urban Development.

According to residents of Martakert, Mataghis, and Talysh, the meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Vienna will not produce the desired results, although it ended with the engagement to comply with the ceasefire agreements of 1994 and 1995.
