Detainees in Sochi Olympic settlement treat power agents' actions as illegal

Alexander Valov, the editor-in-chief of the "BlogSochi", and interpreter Dmitri Saltykovsky, who are now, after being detained with a group of American journalists in the settlement of Vesyoloe-Psou, kept in the FSB building, have stated about power agents' refusal to explain their actions, draw up a protocol and admit an advocate to them. The FSB insists that the detainees should have had a special pass for staying in the settlement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that eight persons have been detained today in Vesyoloe-Psou, where on June 2, 11 houses from the Olympic Legacy Fund were sold out.

Power agents refused to introduce themselves, present their IDs, or name the reason of the detention, said Mr Valov, adding a bit later that agents had confiscated Mr Saltykovsky's phone. He also stressed that the detainees were denied access to an advocate.

The detainees had got "into the pre-border zone without special passes"; therefore, they were detained, said Captain Kharisov, the on duty officer of the Frontier Department of the FSB for the Krasnodar Territory.

If the settlement, which is a residential area, has no signs and markings, stating that the border regime had been introduced there, the detention of journalists is a violation, said the lawyer Alexander Popkov.
