Relatives of people killed in attack on Nalchik go to court with demand to reveal place of their burial

The claim to the government of Kabardino-Balkaria has been filed to the Nalchik City Court on behalf of 15 persons. In their claim, relatives of the persons, killed during the special operation held in Nalchik on October 13, 2005, demand to reveal the place of their burial. This is reported today by the "Kommersant".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, the relatives also sought for giving out to them of the bodies of the persons, killed in the attack on Nalchik. In June 2007, they appealed to the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, which refused to give out the bodies of their sons for burial. The bodies of the militants were cremated in June 2006. This was reported by the Russian General Prosecutor's Office in July 2007.

The information about filing of the claim to the Nalchik Court was reported by Rustam Matsev, a lawyer of the human rights organization "Legal Initiative", who represented the plaintiffs' interests.

According to the lawyer, the number of the militants killed in Nalchik includes four persons who have been not identified till present, and the very procedure of identification still raises questions. Thus, according to Rustam Matsev, one of the killed men was initially identified as Murat Kardanov and cremated. However, after several years, it became clear that Murat Kardan was alive. He was detained, and in 2010, he died of tuberculosis in prison, the "Kommersant" reports in the article "Graves are sought through court", published today on its website.
