Suspected recruiter of militants from Chechnya detained in Belarus

In Brest, Belarusian law enforcers detained a 22-year-old native of Chechnya on suspicion of his involvement in the "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia by the court and recognized as a terrorist organization.

In late June, a Russian citizen left Moscow by route taxi for Minsk. Then he took a train to Brest. While he was passing the passport control to enter the train from Brest to Terespol, the Chechen native was detained and brought to the militia station for police proceedings. The detainee explained that when he arrived in the territory of Belarus, he intended to move to Poland and then to Germany.

According to the law enforcement authorities, the Chechen native repeatedly provided support to their compatriots in their transportation to the zone of hostilities in Syria, and he repeatedly expressed his intention to go to Europe to take part in terror acts as a supporter of the IS, the "Vecherny Brest" reports.

The detainee will be now transported to Russia, where a criminal case will be instituted against him on suspicion of organizing an illegal armed formation (IAF).
