Azerbaijan announces death of soldier in the conflict zone

A soldier of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces was shot dead today by an Armenian sniper, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported.

According to the Azerbaijani MoD, the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. Vyusal Amir oglu Aliev was killed by a shot of a sniper, who violated the ceasefire, says the MoD's statement.

Azerbaijan has blamed the Armenian party for the incident, the "Trend" reports with reference to the Azerbaijani MoD.

So far, no comments have been made by the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

On April 5, an armistice was announced in the Karabakh conflict zone. Later, the heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan twice, at their meetings in Vienna on May 16, and in Saint Petersburg on June 20, reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. However, both parties are regularly blaming each other of new cases of ceasefire violation.
