Azerbaijani version of Turkish newspaper "Zaman" closed

The newspaper and its electronic version ceased to exist by the decision of its founders.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 15, Turkish militaries undertook a coup attempt, in which 265 people were killed and about 1500 injured.

"Proceeding from the interests of the Azerbaijani statehood, we decided to stop, as of today, the newspaper 'Zaman-Azerbaycan' and the website 'zaman.az'," says the founders' statement.

The statement adds, as quoted by the APA News Agency, that the newspaper was stopped with account of possible impact of events in Turkey on "friendship and brotherhood" of the two countries.

The website is no longer accessible. Earlier, it posted materials in support of the terrorist organization headed by the preacher Fethullah Gülen and named FETO, and criticized President Erdogan, the "Report" says.

On the eve of stopping the newspaper, on July 19, the Press Council of Azerbaijan expressed its concern about the position of the edition on the coup attempt in Turkey and publication of false, in the opinion of the Council, information about the events.
