Dmitry Medvedev: low incomes of Dagestani teachers result from their personal choices
On August 2, at the All-Russian National Youth Educational Forum "Territory of meanings on Klyazma", Gadji Kurbanov, a teacher of the Dagestani State University, complained to the Russian Prime Minister about low salaries of teachers.
"Young teachers are paid 10,000-15,000 roubles, while law enforcers and police officers are paid 50,000 roubles and more... I believe that our tasks (as the tasks of teachers) are not less important and responsible," stated Gadji Kurbanov as quoted by the "Chernovik" (Draft).
Dmitry Medvedev has answered Gadji Kurbanov that "the work of the militia/police is also very difficult and dangerous, in particular, in Dagestan. Therefore, we should not compare those kinds of activities," the "Medusa" reports.
"I believe that a modern enthusiastic teacher can not only receive a salary to be paid to him or her under official schedule, but also somehow earn something more," stated the Russian Prime Minister as quoted by the edition.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev has emphasized that the government does not abandon "the decisions associated with an increase in salaries" for teachers. However, he has also pointed out that the low incomes of teachers are a result of their personal choices.
"And if you want to earn money, there are lots of wonderful places where you can do it faster and better. For example, doing business," said Dmitry Medvedev as quoted by the edition.
