On thirteenth day of Olympic Games, athletes from Caucasus win four medals

On August 18, natives of Northern and Southern Caucasus won four medals at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Of the above four medals, three were won by athletes of the national team of Azerbaijan, and one by an athlete of the national team of Russia.

Earlier, Valentin Demyanenko had been a member of the national team of Ukraine. However, he represented Azerbaijan at the 2016 Olympic Games. On August 18, he won the silver medal in the men's canoe single 200 m. The medal has become the second one in the history of canoeing in Azerbaijan.

Natalya Sinishin, another Azerbaijani athlete, took the third place and won the bronze medal in freestyle wrestling in the weight category of up to 53 kg.

Kyamran Shakhsuvarly has become the third medallist from Azerbaijan. He has failed to get through to the final boxing tournament in the weight category of up to 75 kg and won the bronze medal. As a result of the semi-final, Kyamran Shakhsuvarly was defeated by Arlen Lopez, an athlete from Cuba.

On August 18, one more medal was won for the Russian national team by Alexei Denisenko, a native of the Rostov Region. In the final tournament of taekwondo in the weight category of up to 68 kg, he was defeated by an athlete from Jordan and won the silver medal.
