MIA reports formal reason for Timur Khamkhoev's detention

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has explained the detention of Timur Khamkhoev, the chief of the Centre for Combating Extremism of the Ingush MIA, by the investigation into a criminal case of robbery of a local resident.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to a source from the law enforcement bodies, Timur Khamkhoev, the chief of the Ingush MIA's Centre for Combating Extremism, and several of his subordinates were detained on December 7.

The MIA reports that the suspect is detained within the investigation into the criminal case of robbery instituted on November 30. According to the preliminary information, the victim was deprived of his car and his mobile phone, and he was asked to pay 800,000 roubles for the return of property and non-disclosure of information about his private life.

According to the unofficial version, Timur Khamkhoev might have been detained in connection with the investigation into the criminal case on the death of Magomed Daliev at a police station, who was suspected of a robbery, the "Life" reports.

On July 16, the Ingush MIA reported that 50-year-old Magomed Daliev, suspected of involvement in an armed assault on a bank in the village of Sunzha, died at a police station during interrogation. The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has instituted a criminal case on abuse of power by staff members of the Ingush MIA.
