Geriev: FSB agents offered help in exchange for data about "Caucasian Knot"

During their visit to the SIZO (pre-trial prison) to Zhalaudi Geriev, a journalist of the "Caucasian Knot", agents of the Russian Federal Security Bureau (FSB) asked him about the editorial policy of the "Caucasian Knot" and offered to cooperate with them. A permit to meet him was issued to agents by a judge of the Shali District Court of Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today the Chechnya's Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the verdict to Geriev. His defence is preparing a cassation against this decision; and the journalist himself has treated it as "legalized lawlessness."

In November, it became known that agents from the local FSB department had made requests for visiting the journalist, and visited him, although his defence did not know about it.

According to Geriev, in September, two FSB agents also asked him about his contacts with foreign mass media and his travels abroad. However, no agreements with him had been achieved by the agents.

"I told them that I was and will be always writing the truth; and the 'Caucasian Knot' had never worked for someone's interests," said Geriev.

FSB agents could visit Geriev with the permission of the judge, said his advocate Alaudi Musaev.

In her turn, Nadezhda Ermolaeva, another advocate of the journalist, has stated that FSB agents had no right to meet Geriev in the absence of his defence.
