In Ingushetia, case about torture of Magomed Aushev reopened

In December 2016, Timur Khamkhoev, the chief of the Ingush Centre to Combat Extremism (CCE), and field investigator Adlan Khamkhoev were detained by law enforcers. After that, investigators opened a case of torture used against Magomed Aushev. This was reported by his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, 2014, Magomed Aushev, a resident of the village of Ekazhevo, was detained on suspicion of opening fire out of a car during a wedding party. According to his family members, after his detention, Magomed Aushev was tortured and beaten. On December 22, 2014, he lost consciousness at courthouse and was hospitalized. Magomed Aushev was released on recognizance not to leave for medical treatment, and he underwent surgery. In May 2015, the mother of Magomed Aushev said that armed men came to their house and demanded from her son to retract his evidence.

Toma Tsechoeva, an advocate of Magomed Aushev, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the criminal case against the people who tortured her client had been suspended. It was not investigated for a long time because of the fact that the case materials contained no information about the name of the persons who beat and tortured Magomed Aushev.

"When the former chief of the CCE and his subordinates were detained and criminal proceedings were instituted against them, the criminal investigation into the case of torture was resumed at our request," said the advocate.
