Kadyrov confirms presence of Chechen militaries in Syria
Chechen natives are serving in the battalion of military police of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the Syrian city of Aleppo, said the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov. According to his story, Adam Delimkhanov met the Chechens in Syria; as reported by the "Novaya Gazeta", Delimkhanov formed the unit in Chechnya to be sent to Syria.
A law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot" on December 9 that 500 militaries had been sent from Chechnya to Syria.
"Mezhiev and Delimkhanov have visited the battalion of military police of the MoD, where young people from Chechnya are serving. They told them that they are proud to maintain peace and order in Aleppo, protecting civilians from terrorists," Kadyrov wrote on the Instagram on January 23.
Let us note here that on December 20, 2016, it was reported on the formation in Chechnya of battalions from employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) to be sent to Syria. "Adam Delimkhanov, an MP of the State Duma from Chechnya, was personally responsible for sending two battalions of 600 people each in Syria," the "Novaya Gazeta" reported. However, on December 21, Kadyrov said that the Chechen leadership is not involved in the formation of the battalions.
