Prison hospital administration does not allow MPs to visit Arthur Sargsyan on hunger strike in Armenia
The administration of the Yerevan prison hospital did not allow MPs to visit the ward of Arthur Sargsyan, who declared hunger strike and who was accused of supporting members of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun). MP Edmond Marukyan called those actions illegal.
On July 17-31, members of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) created by supporters of the opposition movement "Constituent Parliament" captured the building of the police regiment in Yerevan. At night of July 26, Arthur Sargsyan broke through the police cordon around the building and delivered food for the rebels. The court pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure to Arthur Sargsyan. The activist is suspected of assistance in hostage-taking and illegal purchase and possession of weapons.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 9, the court replaced the pre-trial restriction measure for Arthur Sargsyan from recognizance not to leave to two-month detention. On February 10, Arthur Sargsyan went on hunger strike in protest against his detention.
On his page in the Facebook, Nikol Pashinyan, has reported that the administration of the penitentiary institution "Hospital for Convicts" did not allow him and his colleague Edmond Marukyan, another independent MP, to visit Arthur Sargsyan and to examine the conditions of his detention.
The actions of the administration of the penitentiary institution contradict the law. This opinion was voiced by Edmond Marukyan.
The MP has also added that he and Nikol Pashinyan will meet today with the General Prosecutor of Armenia to discuss the situation and the replacement of the pre-trial restriction measure for Arthur Sargsyan.
