Rights defenders present 27 Azerbaijani political prisoners to pardoning

The list, presented by a group of rights defenders to the Commission on Pardoning under the Azerbaijani President, includes, first of all, prisoners with serious health problems, persons, on whom there are decisions of the European Court of Human Rights ECtHR, and the "prisoners of conscience", recognized as such by the Amnesty International (AI).

The list of 27 prisoners was sent to the above commission on February 16.

The list includes all the persons, whose politically motivated prosecution causes no doubt in local and international human rights organizations and officials of the Council of Europe, Arzu Abdullaeva, the head of the Azerbaijani National Committee of the Helsinki Civil Assembly, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In particular, Ms Abdullaeva mentioned Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the "Republican Alternative" (ReAl) movement; the journalist Seimur Khazi; the “Nida” movement activists Ilkin Rustamzade, Giyas Ibragimov, Bairam Mamedov, Elgiz Gakhramanly; activists of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Elvin Abdullaev, Murad Adilov, Fuad Akhmedli and Fuad Gakhramanly, and some other names.
