Abkhazia completes accepting documents for participating in parliamentary elections
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia has completed the reception of documents from the initiative groups and political parties, willing to nominate candidates for the elections to the National Assembly – the Parliament.
Earlier, on January 21, the CEC began registering initiative groups and political parties, willing to nominate their candidates for the Parliament. As of February 9, a total of 135 such groups were registered and four political parties, namely: the "Ainar", the "Amtsakhara", the "Popular Front for Justice and Development" and the "National Unity Forum of Abkhazia". The elections will take place on March 12. According to the journalists, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", the decisive role will belong to candidates’ family relationships and skilful electoral moves.
The total number of registered candidates is 139; 114 of them were registered by initiative groups, and 25 – by political parties, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports with reference to the CEC of Abkhazia.
According to the amendments of 2016, citizens with criminal records, patients sick with alcoholism, drug addiction and toxicomania, substance abuse, as well as persons with mental health problems, are not admitted to the elections, the “apsny.ru” reports.
The incumbent Parliament of Abkhazia was formed after the elections of March 10, 2012.
