Makhachkala authorities explain urgent opening of kennel for stray dogs by schoolgirl's death

On March 1, a kennel for stray dogs organized by the Mayor's Office was opened in the village of Semender of the Kirov District of Makhachkala, and the opening ceremony was attended by members of animal rights organizations of Makhachkala. This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent who came to the opening ceremony.

According to Abdulmumin Ibragimov, First Deputy Mayor of Makhachkala, this is the first nursery for keeping dogs in the city.

The First Deputy Mayor has also noted that the facility was built at an accelerated rate in connection with the death of a nine-year-old girl, who, according to the preliminary investigation information, died in an attack of stray dogs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19 in Makhachkala the body of a nine-year girl was found; by the preliminary investigators’ version, she died as a result of stray dogs’ attacks. After the incident, residents of Dagestan began reporting mass shooting of stray dogs in the republic.

In his interview to journalists, Abdulmumin Ibragimov has also added that the administrations of each district of Makhachkala created groups of vigilantes to patrol the city and help law enforcers to identify those who kill stray dogs. According to him, the Makhachkala city administration stands strictly against such atrocities and the authorities will appeal to the law enforcement bodies to bring to justice participants of hunt for stray animals.
