Kokoity rejected registration as candidate for presidency in South Ossetia

Eduard Kokoity, the former leader of South Ossetia, has not passed the residency requirement, which demands permanent residence in the territory of the republic for the past five years. This was reported by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has informed that on February 23, Eduard Kokoity submitted documents to the CEC for registration as a candidate at the presidential election in South Ossetia.

According to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) submitted to the CEC, during the past five years, Eduard Kokoity did not permanently reside at the place of registration in Tskhinvali, the CEC reports.

Besides, an audit has revealed that Eduard Kokoity had provided false information about his property.

"A Lada Granta car is registered for the name of Madina Tolparova, the wife of Eduard Kokoity, and it is not mentioned in the information about this property. And that fact is also the basis for the CEC's refusal in registration for the election," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was explained by a CEC member.

For those reasons, at the today's meeting, 14 out of 15 CEC members voted to refuse the registration of Eduard Kokoity, the CEC official reports.
