In Elista, tenants of flooded houses indignant about demand to account for compensation
The Elista administration has approved the procedure for provision of one-time financial assistance to residents of flooded houses. Owners of the affected households are dissatisfied with the regulation, obliging them to provide a report on the use of funds allocated to them.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23, flooding damaged 23 households in the southern district of Elista. According to the Mayor's Office, they accommodated about 60 people.
On March 2, the newspaper «Elista Panorama», an official edition of the city administration, published the resolution on the procedure for provision of one-time financial assistance.
"Citizens who have received one-time financial assistance are required to submit the documents, proving the use of one-time financial assistance allocated to them for the intended purpose, to the administration of the city of Elista no later than within three months from the date of receipt of an amount of one-time financial assistance," announces the regulation.
"People have expressed their protest against the request of the Mayor's Office to submit the checks proving the use of one-time financial assistance," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Elena Titarenko, a tenant of one of the households affected by the flooding.
"Many people will make repairs with their own hands to clean up their houses," said the resident of Elista. Besides, according to Elena Titarenko, the problem is in the fact that "private builders engaged in repairs do not give any checks to people."
