Ilgar Mamedov complains about poor health

Ilgar Mamedov, the imprisoned leader of the “Republican Alternative” (ReAl) movement, has asked for examination by foreign doctors, the ReAl has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ilgar Mamedov was in custody since February 2013; and in March 2014, he was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of organizing protests of residents of the city of Ismayilli, who protested against officials’ lawlessness.

"Today, Ilgar Mamedov phoned from his colony and said that he suffers from severe pains in his back and muscles; the pains are so strong that it's hard for him even to talk," said Natig Djafarli, the Executive Secretary of the ReAl.

Rasul Djafarov, the head of the Human Rights Club (HRC), has noted that the Azerbaijani legislation does not prohibit prisoners’ examination by foreign doctors.

He added that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe had warned the Azerbaijani authorities about their responsibility for the health of the imprisoned politician.

Abdul Abilov, who was released on March 17 by the pardoning order, also reported the poor medical care in jails.
