Defence of Jehovah's Witnesses expresses disappointment with position of Supreme Court

At the request of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the courts' decisions to recognize the literature of Jehovah's Witnesses as extremist were attached to the materials of the case against the Administrative Centre of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia. According to an advocate, almost all 17 motions filed by the defence were dismissed by the court. The advocate has also announced the intention to appeal against the dismissal of the motions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 5, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia began to consider the claim filed by the MoJ for the prohibition of the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses Administrative Centre in Russia. The court refused to accept a counterclaim from the religious organization.

The Russian MoJ has suspended the activities of the Jehovah's Witnesses Administrative Centre in Russia starting from March 15 and accused the religious organization of violating the law, including the law on extremism.

Advocate Viktor Zhenkov has expressed his disappointment with the fact that the court dismissed almost all 17 motions.
