Krasnodar picketers oppose cruel treatment of animals

On the International Circus Day, Krasnodar animal defenders urged townspeople not to attend the circus shows, where animals are involved; and demanded from the authorities to stop shooting stray dogs, but use sterilization instead.

The picket in defence of animals was held today in the Chistiakov Grove of Krasnodar within the framework of the Third International and All-Russian Campaign "For Circus without Animals". About 20 people took part in the two-hour-long action.

"Within the campaign held on April 15, the International Circus Day throughout Russia and elsewhere in the world, we represent the interests of the animals tortured in circuses. For example, elephants are trained by poking needles into their legs and by piercing their ears. Other animals are forced to starve," Anna Arefieva, an activist of the zoo-defence group" Krasnodar against circus with animals", who organized the action in Krasnodar, told the" Caucasian Knot "correspondent.

The picketers have noted that the KrasnodarTerritory has many other problems in relation to animals. "In Krasnodar, they catch and kill stray dogs; although sterilization is not only a humane way to combat neglected animals, but it is also the only efficient one," said one of the picketers.
