Yerevan hosts torchlight procession in memory of Armenian Genocide victims

More than 20,000 people took part in a torchlight procession held in the capital of Armenia and dedicated to the memory of the victims of Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey. This was reported by organizers of the memorial action.

In Yerevan, the torchlight procession started from Freedom Square and began with burning of a Turkish flag, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In their speeches, participants of the torchlight procession have noted that "the policy of Turkey aimed at the destruction of Armenians did not succeed."

In 1915, more than 1.5 million Armenians were killed in the Ottoman Empire. Later, the victims were canonized in Armenia.

Today, in Nagorno-Karabakh, people have also held torchlight processions, rallies and memorial services in churches dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey.
