Second appeal against verdict to Geriev sent to Russia's SC

The advocate Nadezhda Ermolaeva has sent a cassation appeal against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, to the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia. She insists that the SC should remove the violations committed by Chechen courts and return the case to the first-instance court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2016, the SC of Chechnya upheld the verdict to Geriev, who was sentenced, on September 5, 2016, by the Shali District Court to three years in prison on charges of possessing marijuana.

Geriev's innocence was proved by his defence; however, the first-instance and the appeal courts are ignoring this, the advocate Alaudi Musaev has stated, stressing that at cassation consideration of Geriev's case, the SC of Chechnya failed to respond to any of the defence's arguments.

Nadezhda Ermolaeva has recalled that the first-instance court had disregarded the defence witnesses' testimonies about Geriev's kidnapping.
