Teacher detained in Georgia asks court not to extradite him to Turkey

The Tbilisi City Court has pronounced an extradition arrest for Turkish citizen Mustafa Emre Çabuk, accused at home of aiding and abetting terrorists. An advocate of the Turkish citizen intends to appeal against the Court's decision of arrest and draw the attention of international human rights organizations to his client's case.

Turkish teacher Mustafa Emre Çabuk has been working in Georgia since 2002. In recent years, he works as one of the top-managers at a Tbilisi private college. In Turkey, he was accused of having connections with the FETÖ, an organization of supporters of Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen. The FETÖ is recognized in Turkey as a terrorist organization.

On May 24, Mustafa Emre Çabuk was detained in Tbilisi at the request of the Turkish side. Today, the Tbilisi City Court has sentenced the Turkish citizen to extradition arrest for three months.

At the trial, Mustafa Emre Çabuk himself has pleaded not guilty. According to him, he never received any requests from the Turkish investigating bodies to appear for questioning.

"At present, there is no justice in Turkey, and I ask the Georgian side not to extradite me to Turkey," said the defendant as quoted by the "News-Georgia".
