PFPA's deputy chair Gezyal Bairamly detained
In Azerbaijan, Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been detained on suspicion of smuggling. This was reported by advocate Elchin Sadygov. Colleagues of Gezyal Bairamly have already claimed a possibility of a provocation against her.
In the evening of May 25, Gezyal Bairamly was detained at a border customs checkpoint in the Gazakh District of Azerbaijan when she was returning from medical treatment in Georgia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by advocate Elchin Sadygov.
According to the advocate, criminal proceedings were instituted against Gezyal Bairamly. "They report on counterfeit money allegedly discovered in her belongings," said Elchin Sadygov.
He has said that he does not have detailed information yet and is trying to find out the details. Meanwhile, the advocate has noted he expects Gezyal Bairamly to be transported to Baku.
Customs officials claim that they found 10,000 counterfeit US dollars in the Gezyal Bairamly's bag, reports Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the leader of the public alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners" with reference to unofficial information.
"If the information is reliable, then we face another provocation against the PFPA or the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), since Gezyal Bairamly is a member of its coordinating centre. This is an attempt of a very dirty and disgusting provocation," stated Ogtai Gyulyalyev.
