Public prosecutor requests to sentence Azerbaijani oppositionist Fuad Akhmedli to seven years of imprisonment
In Baku, at the trial in the case against Fuad Akhmedli, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), the completion of the investigation has been announced. Public prosecutor has requested to sentence the activist to seven years of imprisonment. The defence will insist on the verdict of acquittal.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Fuad Akhmedli, the leader of the Khatai branch of the PFPA Youth Committee, is accused of disclosing personal data of subscribers of the mobile network company in which he worked. Besides, investigators treat him and Faig Amirov, another PFPA's activist, as supporters of Turkish preacher Fethullah Gülen. On May 2, two victims voiced no complaints against Fuad Akhmedli.
An advocate of Fuad Akhmedli believes that Muhammad Guliev, who was recognized as a victim in the case, could defame the oppositionist by starting cooperation with law enforcers.
"Muhammad Guliev faced a long term of imprisonment," explained Mustafaev.
The trial in the Fuad Akhmedli's case will be resumed on June 16.
Fuad Akhmedli is included in the updated list of political prisoners of Azerbaijan released by a working group of civil society on October 17, 2016.
