Over 50 Chechen gays get help from "Russian LGBT Network"

Since April 1, more than 100 gays from Chechnya and several members of the LGBT community from other regions of Northern Caucasus have applied for help to the "Russian LGBT Network", the organization reports. More than 50 gays have been transported out of Chechnya, and 12 of them have already left Russia, notes a staff member of the "Russian LGBT Network".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" published a material about mass detentions in Chechnya of men suspected of non-traditional sexual orientation. Later, the newspaper has also reported that a "secret prison" for people with non-traditional sexual orientation was located in Argun.

Since April 1, more than 100 gays have applied for help to the "Russian LGBT Network". This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a staff member of the organization on June 19. "Almost all of them are from Chechnya. There are only two or three persons from other regions of the Caucasus. With our efforts, we transported out of the region a little more than 50 people who complained about the persecution because of their sexual orientation, 12 of them have already left Russia", said the staff member of the "Russian LGBT Network".

Meanwhile, she believes that all gays who were taken out of Chechnya "should finally leave the territory of Russia." "In Russia, their safety will not be ensured," the staff member of the "Russian LGBT Network" explained.
