Armenia denies Zaven Karapetyan's membership in its armed forces

According to Artsroun Ovannisyan, the spokesman for the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD), a man on the video released by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence, who claims that being a member of a group of Armenian soldiers and officers, he planned to attack the positions of the Azerbaijani army, is not a soldier.

"The Azerbaijan's attempts to once again present an ordinary citizen as a saboteur are at least ridiculous. The video is an obvious misinformation in the form of a cheap presentation. That is evidenced by the man's clothes, his appearance and speech. This is a signature of Azerbaijan very familiar for us," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Artsroun Ovannisyan.

Meanwhile, on June 21, Vanadzor Mayor Mamikon Aslanyan issued a statement in which he stated that "the man in the video is a citizen of Armenia."

According to Mamikon Aslanyan, the man was registered at the old people's home in Vanadzor with the aim of obtaining a passport. The Mayor has also added that the man did not have a permanent residence, grew up in an orphanage and collected garbage in the city.

"Staff members of the old people's home reported that he had earlier criminal record and had mental problems," the Mayor stated.
