Residents of Chechnya complain about continuing rise in food prices before Eid al-Fitr

Despite the appeal of the Chechen Mufti and the activities of the special commission, food prices remain inflated at the end of the month of Ramadan. This was reported by residents of the Chechen Republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, residents of Chechnya complained about price increase in the last days of the month of Ramadan. The Chechen Mufti called on sellers to take into account the interests of low-income believers and not raise prices before the celebration of the fasting end.

According to local woman Iman, despite the appeal of the Chechen Mufti, the prices continued to grow. "Almost everything has risen in price, from candies to fruits. I do not know how those sellers can call themselves Muslims and believers, if on the main Muslim holiday they are preoccupied only with their own profit and do not think that they create serious problems for people," said the woman.

Entrepreneurs explain the rise in prices for food by the growth of prices from wholesalers. "We deliver food products from neighbouring regions, where wholesalers raised their prices. Of course, we also have to raise our prices to avoid losing money. I've made a minimum margin, but people are still unhappy," commented on the situation Magomed, an owner of a grocery store in Grozny.
