Suspected attacker on Grozny arrested in Italy

In the Italian region of Puglia, the law enforcement agencies have taken into custody a 38-year-old native of Chechnya suspected of attacking law enforcers in Grozny in December 2014. This has been reported today by the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on December 4, 2014, members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) organized an attack on law enforcers in Grozny. A counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was introduced in the centre of the city. As a result of the armed clashes in the Grozny Press House and the secondary school No. 20, where law enforcers blocked members of the armed underground, 14 law enforcers, 10 militants, and two civilians were killed.

The suspected participant of the attack on Grozny was detained in the Italian city of Bari. He was arrested on suspicion of terrorism, and the police treat him as a member of a terrorist grouping, the "La Repubblica" reports with reference to the law enforcement agencies.

According to the "La Repubblica", the arrested man arrived in Italy from Belgium and started working at a cultural centre in the city of Foggia, and he attracted the police's attention as a possible militant recruiter. He is suspected of involvement in a grouping close to the organization "Imarat Kavkaz" banned in Russia, as well as in military operations in the territory of Syria between 2014 and 2015, the "La Repubblica" reports.
