Afghan Mukhtarly's wife hands over to police new evidence of his kidnapping

Leyla Mustafaeva, the wife of Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Mukhtarly, has handed over to the Georgian police the photos of three persons who watched her husband prior to his kidnapping. During three hours, Leyla Mustafaeva and Archil Chopikashvili, an advocate of the family, stayed in the building of the Chief Police Department of Old Tbilisi, where policemen questioned the journalist's wife, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Journalist Afghan Mukhtarly disappeared on May 29 in Tbilisi. On May 30, he telephoned his advocate Nemat Kerimli and said that he was brought to Baku. According to Mukhtarly, during the kidnapping, he was exposed to violence and beatings.

According to Leyla Mustafaeva, the photos of the people who watched Afghan Mukhtarly were found among his personal files.

"Unfortunately, we have to do the work of the police. We are looking for evidence, since we are told the surveillance cameras in the area of my husband's kidnappings were switched off," Leyla Mustafaeva said on the air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel.

"We handed over the documents to the police to ensure an objective resolution of the case. I hope that the police will take advantage of the opportunity," noted advocate Archil Chopikashvili.
