Azerbaijani activists commemorate journalist Guseinov murdered in Baku

Today, Baku has hosted an action in memory of Elmar Guseinov, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Monitor", timed to his 50th birthday. According to participants of the action, the Azerbaijani authorities have left unpunished the killers and the persons who ordered the Elmar Guseinov's murder.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Elmar Guseinov, the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Monitor", was murdered on an entry to his apartment on March 2, 2005.

In the course of the today's action, colleague of the murdered journalist, public and political activists, visited the grave of Elmar Guseinov, laid flowers to the tombstone, and held a rally in front of the grave to pay tribute to the journalist's memory, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The murder of Elmar Guseinov has not been solved yet, noted Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA).

"For 12 years now, they deceive the Azerbaijani people and say that the killers of Elmar Guseinov are in Georgia and that the country refuses to extradite them to Azerbaijan. Meanwhile, recently, the Azerbaijani authorities managed to deliver journalist Afghan Mukhtarly from Tbilisi to Baku, although he had never committed any crime. We should raise the question at the international level and ask how the Azerbaijani authorities manage to bring the undesired journalist from Tbilisi to Baku, but cannot secure the detention of persons suspected of the Elmar Guseinov's murder," Ali Kerimli said.
