Gannushkina expresses concerns about Tumso Abdurakhmanov's extradition to Russia
Tumso Abdurakhmanov, a native of Grozny, put in Russia on the wanted list, runs the risk of being extradited to his homeland despite a request to provide him with political refuge in Georgia. This opinion was voiced by human rights defender Svetlana Gannushkina.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tumso Abdurakhmanov, put in Russia on the federal wanted list, reported his detention in one of the countries to where he went from Georgia.
Tumso Abdurakhmanov associates his persecution in Russia with a conflict with a top-ranking relative of Chechnya. The Georgian authorities refused to grant him political asylum. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" addressed the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia with a request to intervene in the Tumso Abdurakhmanov's case.
"The situation when an asylum-seeker can be jailed in a certain country for being put on the international wanted list, for example, is fairly ordinary. In a situation like this, a person can be easily extradited, especially from the CIS countries. The story with Alexander Lapshin clearly shows that," said the human rights defender.
Tumso Abdurakhmanov needs legal assistance, since the risk for his extradition is great, Svetlana Gannushkina has added.
