Suspected attacker on Budyonnovsk detained in Grozny
A suspected member of a unit led by field commander Shamil Basaev has been detained 22 years after the terror act. This has been reported today by a source from the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya.
On June 14, 1995, a group of militants from Chechnya, led by Shamil Basaev, attacked citizens and organizations in Budyonnovsk and captured the central city hospital of the city. As a result of the terror act, 129 people were killed. After the talks on June 19, 1995, the terrorists freed the rest of the people, and the Russian authorities agreed to stop combat actions in Chechnya and withdraw troops, while the militants were allowed to return to Chechnya.
"Several days ago, in the city of Grozny, law enforcers detained a former militant from the militant grouping led by Shamil Basaev who took part in the attack on Budyonnovsk in June 1995. The criminal was hiding from justice for more than 22 years," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source from the law enforcement agencies of Chechnya.
According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, the detainee's involvement in the attack on Budyonnovsk was "revealed and fully confirmed, including by his own confession." In the near future, a formal charge will be filed against the detained man, the source reported.
