According to activists, the purpose of a picket held in Sochi in defence of Article 31 of the Constitution is to draw attention to freedom of speech, opinions and assemblies.
Article 31 of the Constitution of Russia reads: "Citizens of the Russian Federation have the right to assemble peacefully without weapons, hold meetings, rallies and demonstrations, marches and pickets."
On July 31, in Komsomolsky Park in Sochi, nine people held a picket in defence of Article 31 of the Constitution. The action finished without incidents.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Vladimir Kimaev, a participant of the action, the picketers were shot on video by media representatives. Policemen and officials from the Mayor's Office also shot the picketers with their mobile phones.
"Alexander Bondarev, the chief of the ROVD (District Interior) for the Central District, approached us by the end of the action. He decided to start a discussion with us about our unpatriotic attitude. He condemned me and Roman Dyakov, an organizer of the picket, for wearing T-shirts with words reading: 'California' and 'New York'," said Vladimir Kimaev.
