Mikhail Saakashvili's brother detained in Kiev
This morning, David Saakashvili, a brother of the former Georgian President, has been detained at his home in Kiev. This has been reported by Mikhail Saakashvili. According to him, David Saakashvili was been taken away "to some unknown destination" in a Chevrolet white car. Lawyer David Saakashvili has a Ukrainian residence permit, noted Mikhail Saakashvili.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 26, it became known that Mikhail Saakashvili was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship. Teya Tsulukiani, Georgian Minister of Justice, has stated that the Kiev authorities will be able to start the process for extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili to Georgia as soon as he returns to Ukraine. On August 7, Mikhail Saakashvili himself stated that he presented his Ukrainian passport on his trips and he was not asked any questions.
The deprivation of Mikhail Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship has been explained by false information, indicated by him for obtaining a Ukrainian passport. Mikhail Saakashvili has stated that the application for Ukrainian citizenship does not bear his signature.
"They are likely trying to influence me in this way to make me change my mind about coming back," Mikhail Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page.
In his turn, Ilya Kiva, the former adviser to the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA), has reported that David Saakashvili has been detained for violating the regime of stay in the country.
"The Mikhail Saakashvili's brother has been detained for violating the regime of stay in the country. The migration service and the police detained him and prepare him for deportation," reported Ilya Kiva as quoted by the "112 Ukraine".
The police have not detained David Saakashvili, but only ensured his delivery to the bodies of the migration service, where he currently stays. This was explained by Artyom Shevchenko, the chief for the Communication Department of the Ukrainian MIA.
According to him, in March, the migration service of Ukraine cancelled the residence permit issued to David Saakashvili, since the State Employment Service reported that his work permit had been revoked.
