Fourteen inmates convicted for riots in Nardaran are at large before time

Fourteen believers-residents of the dwelling settlement of Nardaran, who were sentenced in November 2015 to prison terms of up to 2.5 years after clashes with the police, are back at large.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, 2015, 14 people were detained in Nardaran during a law enforcers’ special operation, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim Unity" Movement. This provoked unrests, in the course of which seven people were killed.

The above 14 Nardaran residents were released from custody on September 11, Khikmet Khajizade, the head of the Far Centre for Political and Economic Studies, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

Fariz Namazly, a lawyer, has confirmed the conditional early relief (CER) of 14 believers from Nardaran.

"People have been released, who were sentenced to 2-2.5 years in prison on charges of illegal firearms possession; they had a couple of months left until the end of their terms," Mr Namazly told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that a total of about 90 people were arrested after the events in Nardaran.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer.
